Lewis County Schools Seeking Bids for Sod Removal at LCHS Football Field
Lewis County Schools is inviting businesses and contractors to submit sealed bids for sod removal at the Lewis County High School football field. This project is the first step in the school’s exciting plan to install artificial turf, enhancing the facility for student-athletes and the community.
This is a paid bid opportunity — the highest responsible bidder will pay the school for the sod and complete the removal at their expense.

All proposals are due by 12pm on Monday, May 19, 2025. The selected contractor must complete sod removal by end of day Friday, May 23, 2025.
Purpose: Remove existing natural grass sod leaving subgrade in an even condition. Properly dispose of removed material.
1. Site Preparation
- Conduct a site walk to evaluate access, layout, and logistics.
- Identify utility lines and sprinkler systems; ensure all utilities are marked.
- Set up safety signage and any necessary barriers to restrict access during work.
2. Sod Removal
- Remove all existing sod from the entire designated football field area, including sidelines and end zones.
- Depth of removal should be approximately 2–3 inches below the existing surface to include root zone and organic layer.
- Use appropriate sod-cutting equipment to ensure clean, even removal with minimal disturbance to subgrade.
3. Hauling and Disposal
- Load and haul all removed sod and organic material off-site.
- Dispose of materials in accordance with local regulations (landfill or compost site).
4. Clean-Up
- After sod is removed, ensure a relatively smooth and even surface.
- Remove any remaining debris, rocks, or loose material.
- Site must be left clean and ready for the next phase of turf installation.
5. Timeline
- Work must begin immediately following bid award.
- All sod removal and disposal must be completed by end of day Friday, May 23, 2025.
6. Contractor Responsibilities
- Provide equipment, labor, fuel, and disposal logistics.
- Ensure safety compliance with OSHA standards.
- Maintain communication with the project supervisor on progress and any delays.
